New Galway motorway to provide improved access to Ireland West Airport Knock for Galway residents

(Wednesday 30th April 2014) Ireland West Airport Knock welcomed todays announcement by Government of the construction of a new €550m Galway motorway between the towns of Gort and Tuam, which when complete will provide improved access and shorter journey times between Galway and Ireland West Airport Knock.

The 57 km four-lane motorway will cut 20 minutes off the travel time between Tuam and Gort when it is completed by the end of 2018.and will provide a major boost for the Western region.

Welcoming todays announcement by Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar and Minister for Public Expenditure, Brendan Howlin, Joe Gilmore, Managing Director, Ireland West Airport Knock said ‘Todays announcement is great news for the West of Ireland and in particular for the airport. Over 75,000 people from the Galway region use the airport every year whilst a further 100,000 overseas visitors travelling through the airport visit Galway. When the new motorway is complete the shorter journey time will make our airport even more convenient for the people of Galway providing even easier access to our network of 28 international destinations’
