Charities of the year programme
In a new initiative by the airport in 2016, airport staff voted to select 3 Irish charities for the inaugural Ireland West Airport Charity of The Year programme. The charities chosen were Cancer Care West, MS Ireland and Pieta House. Ireland West Airport staff were delighted in December to present a cheque for €30,550 to the three charities following a series of fundraisers throughout the year.
Our 2017 charities of the year programme saw three Irish charities benefit from the fundraising efforts by airport staff and the airport were delighted to present a cheque for over €30,000 to Mayo Cancer Support, Western Care and Western Alzheimers.
Our 2018 charities of the year programme saw three Irish charities benefit from the fundraising efforts by airport staff and the airport were delighted to present a cheque for €33,000 to Down Syndrome Ireland, Mayo & Roscommon Hospice and The Children's Hospital Crumlin.
Our 2019 staff nominated charities of the year are Croi, Hope House and The Jack & Jill Foundation.
The most successful fundraiser annually is our Portwest 5km Runway Run, which each year sees over 1,500 people take to the airports runway and complete a 5km run with a difference on our famous runway!
This new initiative is part of the on-going support and social responsibility activities that help the airport build bridges with the local community and we look forward to a successful year of fundraising with three new charities in 2020.
