Ireland West Airport were delighted this week, to celebrate Ryanair’s 1 millionth passenger on flights to/from Liverpool. Francesca Allsopp and her son Emilio, from Chesterfield in the UK were the lucky recipients of a pair of return flights from Liverpool to Ireland West Airport, and a bottle of champagne to mark the passenger milestone.
Francesca & Emilio are frequent users of the Liverpool service to Ireland West Airport as they use it often to visit family in the West. Francesca travelled to Mayo this week and hired a car to collect her son Emilio who was in Ireland visiting his grandparents Maura & Eamon Sweeney (pictured) who celebrated their 71st birthdays this week. This was their second time using the service in as many weeks as they also travelled over on the service last month to attend the Galway races with family and are already looking forward to attending next year’s festival again.
Ryanair has been operating the Liverpool service for almost sixteen years having commenced flights back in October 2008 and the service has gone from strength to strength with the airline now operating daily flights all year round.
Commenting on the passenger milestone, Joe Gilmore, Managing Director, Ireland West Airport said ‘We are delighted to mark yet another significant milestone in the airport’s history celebrating Ryanair’s 1 millionth passenger using their hugely popular Liverpool service. It’s hard to believe it’s 16 years since the service commenced. There is an immensely strong tie between our region and the Liverpool/Merseyside catchment given historical immigration patterns and there are very strong links connecting family, friends and the diaspora communities in both regions. Furthermore, we see first-hand the huge number of football fans who use the service every week to follow Liverpool and Everton football clubs whilst the service provides a very convenient access point also for Manchester City and Manchester United fans to follow their respective teams. It has been very pleasing in recent years to see extra capacity added to the service to cater for the demand on both sides of the Irish Sea. I’d like to thank Ryanair’s customers and in particular, the Ryanair staff here at the airport, who continue to play a very important role in helping the airport and Ryanair reach passenger milestones such as this and ensure the experience using the airport continues to be both a seamless and enjoyable one.”
