It was cheeky time at Ireland West Airport Knock on Friday as the ‘Cheeky Girls’ flew into Ireland West Airport Knock on a flight from London Gatwick with Aer Lingus. The girls, twin sisters Gabriela and Monica Irimia were flying into the West to perform on stage at the official opening of Galways newest Gay nightclub, The Dignity Bar, located on Shop Street in Galway City.
The twins from Cluj-Napoca in Transylvania, Romania, were travelling to the West of Ireland for the first time and said they were looking forward to seeing the sights and meeting their fans in the West of Ireland. They shot to fame after they appeared as auditionees as the Cheeky Girls on the British TV show, Popstars: The Rivals. They are best known for their debut single, "The Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum)", which has sold over 1.2 million copies worldwide.
In January 2010 Gabriela and Monica auditioned for Britain's Got Talent under the name Cheeky Girls and Darios. They performed a Bollywood dance with a third partner, Darios, in the Hammersmith Apollo, London. The judges reacted favourably and they were voted through to continue in the competition. However, they didn't make it to the Semi-Finals.
