Westlife star Kian Egan recently launched a new billboard at Ireland West Airport Knock for his home village of Strandhill in Co.Sligo. The billboard which was a collaboration between the local community and GoStrandhill.com was erected this morning and Kian was quick to jump at the chance to show his support.
‘The west coast of Ireland is one of the most amazing parts of the world, and Strandhill is no doubt one of the jewels of the West Coast. We are very lucky to call this our home’ said Kian.
Strandhill is a small surfing village 6km outside Sligo town on the west coast of Ireland. Nestled at the foot of Knocknarea Mountain, the village is an eclectic mix of surfers, locals and travellers who have now made the village their home perfectly balancing that work life tightrope.
Once the home for the European surfing championships you will be greeted by long empty beaches to walk, friendly locals and a vibe that is hard to rival anywhere.
Spend the day surfing the beach, hiking the mountain to Queen Maeve’s Grave, lounging in Voya Seaweed baths, visiting the ancient ruins of Killaspugbrone church or Carrawmore Tombs.
The village has a relaxed laid back vibe where you can enjoy a coffee at Shells café, Mammy Johnston’s or lunch in The Strand Bar or a local brew in the Draft House. Boasting a number of superb accommodations from camping to hostels to four star luxury, Strandhill is the ideal getaway.
